If you know me, you know I’m not a huge fan of animals. I’m pretty scared of anything furry, slimy or 4 legged. So it takes more effort for me to get excited about teaching the kids about animals. That being said animals are amazing! God sure showed off when he decided to create ALL of the animals He did, all unique from each other. With Boston we do a letter of the week and I happened to stumble upon a super cute and fun website geared towards teaching through crafts. You can check it out here:
We have been doing her endangered species crafts to go along with the letter of the week we are on. Wow! So interesting and I am seriously learning right along with the kids! (who knew that an Indri Lemur makes the most eery and loud noise to mark their territory!? Or that a Grizzly Bear almost always has twins!?) We’ve been loving it and Iearning so much about these amazing creatures that totally show off God’s glory and masterpiece! Who knows maybe we’ll adopt a baby orangutan after all of this! 🙂
I’ve been hearing about these water beads for a while now and totally block it out of my mind because I KNOW it will only lead to an utter and complete mess for ME to clean! In a moment of sheer insanity I picked some up. they.are.cool! The boys loved them! I loved them! Their super fun. I was so excited to let them play with them, got measure cups out, bowls, spoons everything they would need for “fun and educational play” (HA!!) They played and had fun and then we stopped to eat lunch….Per my fear all of a sudden I hear them calling with a semi panicked voice saying to “Come SEE!” I knew it! I knew it! The reason I didn’t get them to begin with had happened….I wish I had a picture to show what a mess it was but I was in complete shock and
anger frustration! These oh so fun and education balls of bouncy wateryness were completely covering my kitchen floor, bouncing, squished, smashed into crusty old food on my floor. It was like a minefield of waterbeads! I wish I could say I acted in a calm, patient gracious tone but that would be a lie. Then after they were all cleaned up and my anger and frustration had subsided I got on my phone and these pictures were the first thing I saw:
The reality is that messes aren’t my friend. Im not a clean freak by any stretch of the imagination but messes….I really don’t love them either. But i’ve got some kids that love them, and I really do love those kids (especially when they’ve got their cheesy grins and cute dimples showing!) One day I know these messes and the joy in the little things will be gone. Really asking God to help me make messes my friend and have peace and grace in the mess!
Well today was a big day, we had Grandparents Day! I’ve really tried to do things in homeschool that the kids would be doing in school if they were going (ie: picture day, field trips, grandparents day, graduation) SO…today was Grandparents Day and OH HOW EXCITED they were! They got to show off all their things they’re learning, but is it just me or is it all kids that when anyone is around everything falls apart, and they do not perform like I want them to!? We had a fun day and loved showing off our day to Grammy, Grampy and Twoey (my grandmother hence the name: “Twoey” Grammy #2)
Twoey helping out…She is a veteran teacher!
we’re on the letter F this week with Boston and I just happened to have “The Foot Book” so we had some fun with feet!
I found these cute reward trackers:
they get a dot for saying their memory verses, working with good attitudes, anything that I “catch” them doing well without being told. Once they get 10 I found cute $1.00 reward bucks at the dollar store. Today they both got 10 dots and that meant FINALLY they got to get $1.00 to go shopping! they were literally beside themselves with excitement as if I had just told them they won the lottery! 🙂 They got to shop at home with their dollar, with little goodies I’ve collected from the dollar store….I believe it’s the little things that mean the most!
I know, I know…it has skulls with a BOW on it! what in the world!? I totally didn’t even see that until I got home and of coarse it was the first thing she wanted to buy!!
I feel like everyday i’m learning some new trick, new fun way to learn. Recently I learned about these fun things:
Whoever comes up with all these neat things…they’re geniuses! We are loving them, and one of my favorite things about them is that they’re something both kids can do together…multilevel/ages. I love anything like that. they’re great.
I found a great link for a bunch of FREE printable mats to go along with the pattern blocks:
Always learning something new!
